Developing a new cycling strategy - Victoria

From the Victorian Dept of Transport website

The Victorian Government recognises the important role that cycling plays in the transport system as well as being an enjoyable activity and healthy form of exercise.

A new cycling strategy is being developed for Victoria, which will extend the former cycling strategy to cover cycling for recreation, sport and exercise as well as for affordable and sustainable transport.

The strategy will complement work currently underway across government to develop a metropolitan planning strategy for Melbourne, as well as responding to cycling issues in regional Victoria.

Development of the strategy is being led by the Department of Transport in conjunction with VicRoads and other government agencies. Input has been sought from a range of organisations and individuals involved in cycling, as well as other road users.

We are currently working closely with stakeholders across government to develop solutions to some of the issues which have been raised, so we can deliver a robust plan to support and foster the growth of cycling in our state.
