Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is an American nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., whose mission it is to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors to build healthier places for healthier people. They have been operating since 1986. The web site offers information on finding existing trails, building new trails, resources to help in trail building and active transport.
