Bicing Barcelona (EU)
Barcelona's Bicing bike share scheme was launched in 2007 with 1,500 bicycles and 94 stations. By the end of 2011 the scheme had 6,000 bicycles, 420 stations and more than 120,000 users who took more than 14 million trips. This article, published in issue 21 of the magazine Mobility, provides an overview of the scheme and its operations.
In 2006, before the introduction of the service, the city recorded 30-40,000 trips by bicycle every day. Today it's more than 100,000 trips and more than half of those are made on a Bicing bicycle.
